Job summary

Trial Balance in Helston is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join a growing, personable practice. This hands-on role covers accounts and tax work, client management and the day-to-day operation of the practice.

You will manage a varied client portfolio, prepare statutory accounts, corporation tax, VAT returns and supervise junior staff while supporting onboarding and delivering value to clients. ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent is expected.

Qualifications

• ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent qualification with extensive practice experience.
• Strong technical knowledge across accounts, tax and VAT.
• Experience supervising colleagues or managing a small team.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
• Good working knowledge of accounting software.

Responsibilities

Trial Balance are delighted to be working with a growing and personable accountancy practice, looking to recruit an experienced Senior Accountant to join its team in Helston. This is a hands on position offering a broad range of responsibilities, from accounts and tax work through to client management, team development and supporting the day-to-day operation of the practice.

As Senior Accountant, your responsibilities will include:

• Managing a varied portfolio of clients and acting as a key point of contact for their ongoing accounting and taxation requirements
• Preparing and reviewing statutory accounts for companies, partnerships and sole traders
• Preparing corporation tax, personal tax and VAT returns
• Producing management accounts and supporting clients with their wider financial requirements
• Supporting new client onboarding
• Leading client tax review meetings and identifying opportunities to provide additional value
• Reviewing the work of junior colleagues, providing guidance and supporting their ongoing development
• Assisting with workflow planning, deadlines and the day-to-day organisation of the practice
• Supporting the Directors with wider practice management and ad-hoc projects

As Senior Accountant, you'll bring:

ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent qualification, together with extensive experience gained within an accountancy practice.

You'll have strong technical knowledge across accounts, tax and VAT and be confident managing a portfolio of clients independently. Experience supervising colleagues or managing a small team will be important, alongside excellent communication skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.

You'll also be organised, methodical and commercially aware, with a good working knowledge of accounting software.
