Job summary

bk plus in Colwyn Bay is seeking an experienced senior accountant to take ownership of a varied client portfolio and act as the main contact and trusted advisor.

You will prepare and review statutory accounts, corporation tax and self-assessment returns, VAT, and ensure work is ready for partner review, while mentoring junior staff. The role offers autonomy and a clear progression toward Responsible Individual within a growing practice.

Qualifications

• Experience with statutory accounts for companies, sole traders and partnerships.
• Ability to prepare corporation tax and self-assessment returns.
• VAT advice and compliance.
• Strong client relationship management and proactive communication.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review statutory accounts (FRS 102) for various entities.
• Prepare corporation tax and self-assessment returns.
• Handle VAT returns and advise on VAT treatment.
• Manage files end-to-end, ready for partner review with minimal rework.
• Build strong client relationships, manage expectations, communicate proactively.
• Mentor and develop junior team members.
• Stay updated on regulatory changes, including MTD for Income Tax.
• Contribute to practice growth by identifying client opportunities.

We're looking for an experienced accountant to take ownership of a varied client portfolio and play a key role in the continued growth of the practice. For the right person, this role offers a long-term career path as the practice grows. You'll inherit an established portfolio of owner managed businesses across a wide range of sectors, acting as their main point of contact and trusted advisor. You'll manage your clients from start to finish. Day to day, that means:

• Preparing and reviewing statutory accounts for limited companies (FRS 102 Section 1A), sole traders, and partnerships
• Preparing corporation tax returns and self-assessment tax returns
• Handling VAT returns and advising on VAT treatment
• Managing your files from start to finish, producing work that is ready for partner review with minimal rework
• Building strong client relationships, managing expectations, and communicating proactively
• Mentoring and supporting the development of junior team members
• Staying current with regulatory changes, including MTD for Income Tax
• Contributing to the practice's growth by identifying opportunities to add value for clients

This is a senior, hands‑on role. You'll have autonomy over your workload and direct client relationships, and we'll look to you to lead by example on quality and client service.
