Reporting To: Managing Director

Summary:

We are seeking a results-driven Senior Sales Manager with proven experience in the hand tool and DIY sector. The role focuses on growing and managing strategic relationships with major UK retailers including B&Q, Screwfix, Toolstation, and Wickes. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of the retail hardware industry, a strong commercial mindset, and a track record of delivering profitable growth through national retail accounts.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Account Management: Take ownership of key national retail accounts, maintaining and expanding relationships to achieve sales and margin targets.
  2. Strategic Sales Planning: Develop and execute account strategies aligned with overall business goals.
  3. Customer Engagement: Meet regularly with buyers and category managers to present new products, promotional plans, and conduct business reviews.
  4. Negotiation: Lead contract negotiations, pricing, terms, and trading agreements to maximize value for both parties.
  5. Sales Forecasting: Collaborate with supply chain and finance teams for accurate forecasting, planning, and stock management.
  6. New Business Development: Identify opportunities for product listing expansion and securing incremental shelf space or exclusive promotions.
  7. Category Insight: Monitor market trends and competitor activities; provide insights to support product development and pricing strategies.
  8. Cross-functional Leadership: Liaise with internal teams (marketing, product development, logistics) to meet customer expectations.
  9. Performance Reporting: Prepare and present performance reviews and sales analyses to senior leadership and clients.
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Minimum 5+ years of sales or account management experience in hand tools, hardware, DIY retail, or similar sectors.
  • Strong relationships with UK retail buying teams (B&Q, Screwfix, Wickes, etc.) are highly advantageous.
  • Proven ability to grow national accounts and exceed revenue targets.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Strong commercial acumen with analytical skills in sales and forecasting.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
  • Proficient in Excel, CRM tools, and reporting software.
  • Willingness to travel across the UK for customer meetings.
  • Experience in launching new products in a retail environment.
  • Passion for tools, construction, or DIY products.
  • Self-starter with a proactive attitude and entrepreneurial mindset.
