Job description

Equans is looking for a Senior Account Manager to join our team in Coleshill, Birmingham B46 1JU. This is a full-time, permanent role. On offer is a competitive salary, company car or allowance, bonus and benefits package.

This role is responsible for ensuring the continuity within the Equans contracts across Education covering various services such as M&E, building fabrication, security, cleaning service lines, amongst others, together with P&L responsibility for the contract, life cycle, continuous improvement, revenue growth together with the day to day management of people, processes, Quality and Health and Safety including liaising with Stakeholders, SPV’s and external customers.

As this is a demanding contract, our ideal candidate will be resilient with excellent team management and stakeholder management skills. Previous experience with PFI is required.

What will you deliver?

Scope of Responsibility

• Lead the operational delivery of the contract, ensuring high levels of service, compliance, and customer satisfaction.
• Manage contract performance, including P&L, commercial outcomes, sustainability objectives, and operational risks.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and external partners.
• Provide leadership to operational teams, resolving complex issues and supporting wider FM activities as required.

Operational Management

• Lead and coordinate operational teams to deliver safe, compliant, and effective FM services.
• Manage client relationships, escalation processes, and performance against contractual KPIs.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, statutory requirements, and Health & Safety standards.
• Drive continuous improvement, operational efficiency, and effective management of performance reporting and associated risks.

People Management

• Recruit, lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing team.
• Manage performance through clear objectives, regular feedback, and development opportunities.
• Work with HR and operational stakeholders to ensure best practice people management and employee engagement.

Strategic Management

• Develop a strong understanding of the client's business objectives and operational requirements.
• Build effective relationships with key stakeholders and act as a trusted FM partner.
• Support strategic initiatives, change management activities, and alignment with Equans business objectives.

Business Development / Financial Management

• Take ownership of the contract's P&L, budgets, forecasting, and financial performance.
• Analyse performance trends and implement improvements to maximise efficiency and value.
• Identify and support business growth opportunities, contract development plans, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications or Required Experience:

• Possesses extensive operational management experience
• Has PFI operational management experience
• Good knowledge of statutory compliance and requirements under SFG20
• Has strong customer focus
• Commercial experience
• Technical awareness or qualifications
• Has previously held P&L responsibility in excess of £5m per year
• Possesses proven people management experience
• Has strong operational and performance management focus
• Has strong communication skills
• Is numerate and analytical and financially aware
• Possesses MS office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) skills
• Has strong planning and time management skills
• Can demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills
• Has excellent staff coaching skills
• Demonstrates a strong concern for order and quality
• Demonstrates a clear understanding of the basic principles of M&E systems
• Demonstrable abilities and clear experience in supplier contracts negotiation.

Desirable

• Has experience of operating within an outsourced environment
• Possesses sales / business development experience
• Possesses experience of financial planning and analysis
• Can demonstrate experience of working with quality systems
• Has production/service industry people management experience
• Can ideally demonstrate awareness of contract law / employment legislation, particularly TUPE and health and safety best practice / legislation
• Preferably demonstrates experience of operating within the facilities management arena.
• Experience within Healthcare PFI and working to HTM requirement
• Experience with PFI payment mechanisms and PFI reporting requirements
• Management of Safeguarding and compliance with requirements
• Good levels of competence around Fire Safety requirements with regards to maintenance and the Fire Safety Order
• Defect Liability Period expiry experience and previous management of the defect process
