Job summary

Hitachi, Ltd. in the United Kingdom is seeking a Senior AC Protection and Control Lead Engineer for HVDC projects. The role is based in Glasgow with hybrid working: three days in the office, two days at home.

You will be responsible for defining, costing and delivering AC protection and control solutions in tender and execution projects. You will lead the design team, coordinate with sub-suppliers, and oversee FAT/SAT activities to ensure seamless installation and commissioning.

Qualifications

• Translate customer specifications and protection schemes into conceptual design and clear requirements.
• Evaluate sub-supplier quotes based on specified requirements and future design.
• Continuously monitor design and manufacturing, leading the design team in dialogue with customers and suppliers.
• Review protection panel design interfaces to main components and intercommunication links.
• Ensure compatibility between functional requirements, panel design, relay configuration and FAT/SAT readiness.

• Review suppliers test program and supervise FAT.
• Remotely assist installation and SAT as needed.

We are convinced that HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) technology, solutions for energy transfer

with direct current at high voltages, is a long-term sustainable solution. The technology is used for energy transmission over long distances and to connect electricity networks with minimal losses. In addition to energy transfer, HVDC technology also alleviates electricity quality problems and can contribute to the stabilization of connected power grids. For offshore wind power or long-distance underwater transmissions, direct current is the only realistic energy transmission alternative.

In this role as Senior AC Protection and Control Lead Engineer at HVDC, you will the technical responsible for definition, costing and delivery of AC Protection and Control solutions in tender work as well as in execution projects. Detailed design and manufacturing will be sourced to sub-suppliers.

Location: Glasgow Office (Preferred) and Birmingham can also be considered

Working Pattern: Hybrid, 3 days office / 2 days home
