Hitachi Energy Ltd. in the United Kingdom seeks a design engineer for HVDC protection panels, translating customer specifications into conceptual designs and coordinating with sub-suppliers. The role includes reviewing FAT/SAT plans, monitoring design and manufacturing, and supporting installation remotely.

The position is hybrid with Glasgow or Birmingham as preferred locations, offering a comprehensive benefits package and opportunities to shape high‑voltage energy transmission projects.

• Translate customer specifications and protection schemes into conceptual design, and formulating clear requirements to our sub-suppliers.
• Evaluate sub-supplier quotes based on the specified requirements and future design.
• Continuously monitor the design and manufacturing process, and lead the design team in dialogue with customers, suppliers and stakeholders.
• Review detailed protection panel design, including interfaces to main components and intercommunication links.
• Ensure compatibility between functional requirements, panel design, relay configuration and settings prior to FAT.
• Review suppliers test program and supervise FAT.
• Remotely assist installation and SAT as needed.

We are convinced that HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) technology, solutions for energy transfer with direct current at high voltages, is a long-term sustainable solution. The technology is used for energy transmission over long distances and to connect electricity networks with minimal losses. In addition to energy transfer, HVDC technology also alleviates electricity quality problems and can contribute to the stabilization of connected power grids. For offshore wind power or long-distance underwater transmissions, direct current is the only realistic energy transmission alternative.

Location: Glasgow Office (Preferred) and Birmingham can also be considered

Working Pattern: Hybrid, 3 days office / 2 days home

How You'll Make An Impact

• Translate customer specifications and protection schemes into conceptual design, and formulating clear requirements to our sub-suppliers.
• Evaluate sub-supplier quotes based on the specified requirements and future design.
