Job summary

The Bedford College Group seeks a SEND Transition Coordinator to join the Foundation Learning and Additional Learning Support teams across Shuttleworth College, Old Warden, and Central Bedfordshire College—Dunstable Campus.

You will assess and plan high-quality support for students with SEND, coordinate with schools and authorities, and lead staff CPD to ensure smooth enrolment and safeguarding across sites.

Qualifications

  • A Levels or equivalent qualification.
  • GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above.
  • Level 5 qualification in Education, Health or Social Sciences.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and plan high-quality support for students with SEND, including those with EHCPs, ensuring smooth transitions into college.
  • Collaborate with schools, Local Authorities and curriculum teams to gather information and support enrolment transitions.
  • Deliver CPD to curriculum staff on meeting specific needs and support students and families.
  • Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, inclusion and health & safety; maintain compliance and professional standards.
  • Engage in ongoing training and responsive development to improve services.

Location: Shuttleworth College - Old Warden and Central Bedfordshire College - Kingsway Dunstable Campus

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £30,915 and £41,085 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 27 days annual leave plus Bank holidays,People's pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week - 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent - Full Time

About The Role

We are currently seeking a SEND Transition Coordinator to join our Foundation Learning and Additional Learning Support department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Transition Coordinator, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • Role Purpose - Assess and plan high-quality support for students with SEND, including those with EHCPs, ensuring smooth transitions into college and alignment with individual aspirations.
  • Assessment & Planning - Conduct assessments for High Needs and SEND students, determine appropriate provision, complete professional reports for funding panels, and ensure timely documentation.
  • Collaboration & Transition - Liaise with schools, Local Authorities, and curriculum teams to gather information, plan transitions, and support students before and during enrolment.
  • Training & Engagement - Deliver CPD to curriculum staff on meeting specific needs, build strong relationships with students and parents/carers, and participate in marketing events and college activities.
  • Statutory Duties - Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, inclusion, and health & safety; engage in ongoing training and development to maintain compliance and professional standards.
About You
  • Qualifications - A Levels or equivalent; GCSE English and Maths (A-C); graduate or vocational training at Level 5 in Education, Health, or Social Sciences.
  • Knowledge & Experience - Strong understanding of SEND Code of Practice (2014), safeguarding, equality and diversity; experience supporting young people with SEND/EHCP in FE settings and leading meetings with stakeholders.
  • Technical Skills - Proficient in Microsoft Office and IT systems; ability to produce professional reports; excellent administrative and record-keeping skills; understanding of confidentiality and data protection.
  • Core Competencies - Effective communication (verbal, written, telephone), strong organisational and time-management skills, ability to prioritise workload, work under pressure, innovate, and adapt to change.
  • Values & Attributes - Commitment to safeguarding and professional boundaries; flexible approach, willingness to travel across sites, continuous professional development, and access to own transport.
