Job summary

The Bedford College Group is seeking a Learning Support Practitioner to join the Foundation Learning and ALS department at Shuttleworth College, Old Warden. You will provide tailored one-to-one and group support for learners with additional needs, monitor progress and contribute high-quality evidence for EHCP reviews.

Role requires a Level 3 qualification in Learning Support with Level 2 English and Maths, and a commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice across multiple sites.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 qualification in Learning Support or related field.
  • Level 2 English and Maths required.
  • Experience supporting learners with SEND.
  • Background in educational, specialist or care settings.
  • Strong IT literacy and ability to record learner progress.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personalised one-to-one and group SEND learner support.
  • Monitor, record and report learner progress with evidence for EHCP reviews.
  • Promote inclusive teaching and remove barriers for learners.
  • Collaborate with teachers, ALS colleagues, parents and external professionals.
  • Uphold safeguarding, equality and health & safety standards and engage in CPD.

About the role

We are currently seeking a Learning Support Practitioner to join our Foundation Learning and Additional Learning Support department at The Bedford College Group.

  • Personalised SEND Learner Support - Provide tailored one-to-one and group support for learners with additional needs, helping them access the curriculum, develop independence, achieve EHCP outcomes, and reach their full potential across a range of learning environments.
  • Progress Monitoring & Evidence Gathering - Monitor, record and report on learner progress, provide timely feedback to staff, and contribute high-quality evidence for EHCP reviews, progress meetings and multi-agency support processes.
  • Inclusive Practice & Barrier Removal - Promote inclusive teaching and learning approaches, implement strategies to support communication, behaviour, social development and study skills, and help create safe, supportive environments where all learners can thrive.
  • Collaboration & Professional Support - Work closely with teachers, ALS colleagues, parents/carers, therapists and external professionals to ensure learner needs are met holistically and support is coordinated effectively.
  • Safeguarding, Development & College Standards - Uphold safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, and health and safety requirements, participate in ongoing SEND-focused professional development, and support wider College activities, policies and continuous improvement initiatives.
About you
  • Qualifications & Educational Experience - Holds a Level 3 qualification in Learning Support, Education or a related field, with Level 2 English and Maths, experience supporting learners with SEND, and a background in educational, specialist or care settings.
  • SEND Knowledge & Learner Support Skills - Demonstrates a strong understanding of SEND needs and effective support strategies, with the ability to promote independence, resilience, self-advocacy, mobility, and personal care support where required.
  • Communication, Relationships & Collaboration - Builds positive and trusting relationships with learners, staff and stakeholders, communicates effectively, and works collaboratively within multi-agency and educational environments to support learner success.
  • Administration, IT & Professional Practice - Possesses strong literacy, numeracy and digital skills, is proficient in Microsoft Office applications, and can accurately observe, record and report on learner progress and support outcomes.
  • Flexibility, Inclusion & Safeguarding - Committed to inclusive practice, continuous professional development, safeguarding children and young people, and demonstrates a positive, adaptable approach with the flexibility to work across multiple sites and varying work patterns.
