Job summary

Hugh Baird College’s Thornton Campus is seeking a SEND Teaching and Care Assistant to provide high-quality support to learners with special educational needs. You will work with tutors and the wider team to create an inclusive, supportive environment where every learner can thrive.

This permanent, term-time role is pro rata for hours and weeks worked, with a competitive LGPS pension and access to staff benefits. The posting emphasises compassionate care and collaborative teamwork.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Care or equivalent qualification.
• Level 2 Specialist Teaching Worker Award or Learning Support Certificate desirable.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with students and staff.
• Empathy and ability to build rapport with learners with differing needs.

Responsibilities

• Meet and greet students and manage attendance.
• Escort students with mobility needs around campus.
• Assist with personal care per guidance from the team.
• Supervise lunchtimes and breaks for student safety.
• Support learners during teaching sessions and track progress via ILPs.
• Assist planning with class lecturers to tailor support.
• Provide first aid and maintain a safe environment.
• Contribute to enrichment activities and trips.
