Job summary

TeacherActive is working with a specialist school in Chester that supports children aged 4 to 19 with complex learning, physical and medical needs. The SLD/PMLD Teaching Assistant role starts in September and offers a long-term placement with potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

You will work closely with the class teacher and multidisciplinary team to deliver tailored learning, personal care where required, sensory activities and communication support for pupils with SLD/PMLD

The school is looking to appoint a caring and dedicated SLD/PMLD Teaching Assistant on a long-term basis from September, with the opportunity to become permanent for the right candidate. The successful SLD/PMLD Teaching Assistant will support pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), complex medical needs and physical disabilities, working closely with the class teacher and wider multidisciplinary team to deliver tailored learning, personal care where required, sensory activities and communication support.

The successful SLD/PMLD Teaching Assistant will have:

• Experience supporting children or young people with SLD, PMLD or complex additional needs
• Confidence supporting pupils with personal care and moving and handling requirements where required
• A patient, caring and compassionate approach to supporting learning and wellbeing
• Knowledge of communication strategies such as Makaton, PECS or other AAC methods is desirable
• The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
• A genuine passion for making a positive difference to the lives of children with additional needs
