Job summary

Prospero Teaching is working with a school in Stockport to recruit a SEND Teaching Assistant. You will support pupils on 1:1 and small group bases, help them engage in learning and regulate emotions, and assist with personal care where required.

The role is long-term, temp to perm, with start date 01/09/2026 and weekly pay of GBP500-GBP550 depending on experience. You will work with SEN professionals and colleagues to support development and safeguarding.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people.
  • Experience working with SEN needs such as severe Autism, Complex Learning Needs and Sensory Impairments.
  • Experienced providing personal care.
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach with the ability to remain composed in challenging situations.
  • Confidence in setting boundaries and following behaviour management plans consistently.
  • Flexibility, strong communication skills, and a commitment to safeguarding and student welfare.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils on 1:1 and small group basis, helping them to engage in learning and regulate emotions.
  • Need to be comfortable providing personal care to pupils.
  • Assist in managing challenging behaviour and sometimes high-risk behaviours, using positive behaviour strategies.
  • Build strong, professional relationships with pupils.
  • Work closely with other staff members, SEN professionals and external agencies to support development.
