Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking a SEND Learning Support Assistant to support pupils with SEN at a Stockport college from September 2026. The role is based in Stockport, with start on 01/09/2026 and a weekly pay rate of 500-550 GBP, depending on experience.

You will provide 1:1 and small group learning support, assist with personal care, and help manage behaviour while building strong relationships with pupils and staff. The position starts as long-term with a temp-to-perm path after 12 weeks.

Qualifications

Job description

SEND Learning Support Assistant

Location - Stockport (Manchester) (SK8)

Pay - GBP500-GBP550 per week, depending on experience

Start Date - 01/09/2026

Contract Type - Long-Term, Temp to Perm (after 12 weeks)

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant/Support Worker who is confident working with SEN pupils? Prospero Teaching is working with a Special Needs College in Stockport who are in need of a Learning Support Assistant from September, the College supports pupils from 19 - 25.

As a SEND Learning Support Assistant, you will:
  • Support pupils on 1:1 and small group basis, helping them to engage in learning and regulate emotions
  • Need to be comfortable providing personal care to pupils
  • Assist in managing challenging behaviour and sometimes high-risk behaviours, using positive behaviour strategies
  • Build strong, professional relationships with pupils
  • Work closely with other staff members, SEN professionals and external agencies to support development
Requirements:
  • Experience working with children or young people
  • Experience working with SEN needs such as severe Autism, Complex Learning Needs and Sensory Impairments
  • Experienced providing personal care
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach with the ability to remain composed in challenging situations.
  • Confidence in setting boundaries and following behaviour management plans consistently.
  • Flexibility, strong communication skills, and a commitment to safeguarding and student welfare.
  • Psychology, Speech and Language Graduates, Teaching Assistants, Care and Support Workers are ideal for this school
TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS ROLE THROUGH PROSPERO TEACHING, YOU MUST:
  • Hold Right to Work in the UK
  • Hold an enhanced child and adult barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
  • Provide two professional child related references that cover the last two years

The successful candidate will be required to register and have passed all safeguarding/vetting checks with Prospero Teaching in order to fill this vacancy. Any adult working with children and vulnerable young people are responsible for safeguarding and protecting the welfare of the children and young people.
