Job summary

TeacherActive Ltd in Hendon is recruiting experienced SEND Teaching Assistants to support pupils aged 3–18 with autism and complex learning needs in a specialist school setting. You will provide 1:1 and small-group support, collaborate with teachers and therapists, and help create a calm, inclusive learning environment.

The role offers immediate start, long-term placement, competitive daily rates, and access to CPD.

Qualifications

• Understanding of communication methods like PECS/Makaton/AAC is a plus.

Responsibilities

The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Support pupils aged 3–18 across different learning stages.
• Work with children and young people with moderate to severe autism and complex learning needs.
• Provide 1:1 and small-group support tailored to individual needs.
• Support pupils with communication, emotional regulation and positive behaviour management.
• Assist with sensory activities, structured learning and individual education plans.
• Work closely with teachers, therapists and other support professionals.
• Help create a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.
• Provide personal care support where required.

What We're Looking For

• Previous experience supporting children or young people with autism and SEND is essential.
• Confidence working with pupils with moderate to severe autism and additional needs.
• An understanding of non-verbal communication, sensory needs and challenging behaviour.
• Experience using PECS, Makaton, AAC or other communication strategies would be advantageous.
• A calm, patient, resilient and compassionate approach.
• Willingness to support personal care where necessary.
• An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
• The right to work in the UK.
