Location: Derby City Centre, DE1 - easily commutable from Normanton, Chaddesden, Alvaston, Littleover and Mackworth
Pay: £110-£125 per day
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time, long-term temporary with potential for a permanent opportunity

Long Term Futures is looking for an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school in Derby City Centre.

This position would suit someone who already has a strong background supporting children with additional needs and is looking for a role where they can make a genuine, long-term impact. You will work with pupils who require additional support to access learning, manage emotions, develop communication skills and become increasingly independent within the school environment.

About the Role

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing tailored 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEND
  • Supporting children with needs including Autism (ASD), ADHD, SEMH and Speech & Language difficulties
  • Adapting classroom activities and resources to meet individual learning needs
  • Supporting pupils working towards targets outlined within their EHCPs
  • Helping children develop communication, social interaction and independence
  • Supporting pupils with sensory and emotional regulation
  • Using positive behaviour strategies to maintain engagement and reduce barriers to learning
  • Delivering targeted interventions under the direction of teaching staff
  • Providing consistency during transitions, changes in routine and less structured periods
  • Recording progress and communicating effectively with teachers and the wider SEND team
Ideal Candidate Profile

We are particularly interested in applicants who:

  • Have previous experience supporting children with SEND
  • Have worked as a SEND TA, SEN TA, Teaching Assistant, LSA or in a similar child-focused support role
  • Understand the needs associated with Autism, ADHD, SEMH and communication difficulties
  • Are confident providing dedicated 1:1 support
  • Can remain calm and consistent when pupils become dysregulated
  • Have experience with EHCPs, visual supports, PECS, Makaton or SALT strategies - desirable but not essential
  • Are proactive and able to recognise when a pupil needs additional support
  • Can build positive, professional relationships while maintaining clear boundaries
  • Are looking to commit to a long-term school placement
About the School
  • Inclusive primary setting in central Derby
  • Established SEND provision and experienced support staff
  • Strong emphasis on individualised learning and pupil wellbeing
  • Collaborative approach between teaching and SEND teams
  • Accessible location with good public transport links
