Job summary

Long Term Futures is recruiting an experienced EYFS Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Derby City Centre from September 2026. You will support children across Nursery and Reception, delivering play-based activities and targeted phonics, reading and numeracy support.

You’ll contribute to observations and help maintain stimulating indoor and outdoor provision. The role offers weekly pay through our digital payroll, free CPD in EYFS and safeguarding, plus dedicated consultant

Qualifications

  • Level 3 Early Years, Childcare or Teaching Assistant qualification (highly desirable).
  • Experience within EYFS, Nursery or Reception settings.
  • Solid understanding of the EYFS Framework and child development.
  • Experience supporting early phonics and communication development.
  • SEND experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Support children across Nursery and/or Reception with learning and development.
  • Deliver engaging play-based and adult-led activities in line with EYFS."

  • Lead 1:1 and small group activities where required.
  • Encourage independence, confidence and positive social interactions.
  • Support pupils with SEND and additional learning needs as appropriate.
  • Contribute to observations and assessments of development.
  • Help maintain stimulating indoor and outdoor EYFS provision.
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional development.
  • Work closely with teachers and staff to ensure consistent support.

Contract: Full-time, long-term temporary

Long Term Futures is recruiting an experienced and enthusiastic EYFS Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Derby City Centre from September 2026.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a confident Early Years practitioner who understands how to create an engaging, nurturing and structured environment for young children. Working within the school's EYFS provision, you will support children as they develop the communication, social and early academic skills needed to make a successful start to their education.

The school is looking for someone who is proactive, warm and confident getting involved in all aspects of the EYFS day, from adult-led activities and phonics to continuous provision and learning through play.

About the Role

Working alongside the class teacher and wider EYFS team, you will:

  • Support children across Nursery and/or Reception with their learning and development
  • Deliver engaging play-based and adult-led activities in line with the EYFS Framework
  • Support early phonics, reading, communication and numeracy development
  • Lead targeted 1:1 and small group activities where required
  • Encourage children's independence, confidence and positive social interactions
  • Support pupils with SEND and additional learning needs where appropriate
  • Contribute to observations and assessments of children's development
  • Help maintain stimulating indoor and outdoor continuous provision
  • Promote positive behaviour and children's personal, social and emotional development
  • Work closely with teachers and support staff to ensure children receive consistent support
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Level 3 Early Years, Childcare or Teaching Assistant qualification - highly desirable
  • Previous experience working within EYFS, Nursery or Reception
  • Good understanding of the EYFS Framework and child development
  • Experience supporting early phonics and communication development
  • Confident supporting children through structured learning and purposeful play
  • SEND experience is advantageous
  • Patient, nurturing and able to build positive relationships with young children
  • Proactive and willing to become fully involved in the wider EYFS environment
  • Reliable and committed to a long-term school-based role
