Job Title: SEND 1:1 Teaching Assistant in Darlington
Contract Type: Temporary contract (2 terms with potential to extend)
Hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm, Monday to Friday
Start Date: ASAP
We are seeking a patient, proactive and nurturing SEND 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil in Year 2 with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Speech and Language Communication Needs. This is a rewarding, full-time position offering the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a child's development and school experience.
You will be working on a 1:1 basis, closely following the child's EHCPand supporting them to access a modified curriculum, develop social and emotional skills, and build confidence within a mainstream classroom setting.
Provide individualised support to a pupil in Year 2 with ASC and SLCN
Use visual aids, timetables, and communication tools (e.g., PECs or Makaton) to support learning and communication
Help the pupil to develop emotional regulation using tools like zones of Regulation or sensory breaks
Work closely with the class teacher and SENDCo to plan and review progress against EHCP targets
Support the pupil with social interactions during playtimes and transitions throughout the day
Record observations and contribute to assessment and review meetings
Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment
Essential:
Experience working with children with Autism and/or SLCN
Understanding of child development and SEND practices in a primary setting
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
A calm, resilient and positive approach
Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
Desirable:
Training in PECs, Makaton, TEACCH or Zones of Regulation
Experience supporting a child with an EHCP on a 1:1 basis
Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
