Job description

Position: Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA)
Hours: Full-time

Role Overview: You will work under the guidance of the class teacher, SENCO, or SEN Manager to supervise and support students with SEND, helping them learn effectively both independently and in groups. You will support students academically across primary and secondary levels, assisting with language, reading, writing, spelling, mathematics, and encouraging concentration and social skills. You will be responsible for delivering specific programmes and monitoring students' progress and reporting.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with SEND, focusing on Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).
  • Assist in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
  • Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and respected.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and support staff to support students' holistic development.
  • Assist with academic tasks, communication, social skills, and emotional regulation.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the teaching team.
  • Maintain accurate records of student achievements and challenges.
  • Promote independence and self-confidence in students with special needs.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, especially in a special education setting, is preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals with autism spectrum disorders.
  • A compassionate and patient approach to supporting students with diverse learning needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to obtain an enhanced DBS check.
  • Ability to maintain a positive work environment.
  • Experience working with children with SEN is highly desirable but not mandatory.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting children with SEN.
  • Legal right to work in the UK.

Pay rates include 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This position is temporary, with potential for permanency later.
