Job summary

Simply Education Ltd. is seeking a patient SEND Teaching Assistant for a welcoming primary school in Basildon, Essex. You will support pupils with additional needs to access lessons, working closely with teachers and the SENCO.

The role is full-time, term-time only, 8:30am-3:30pm, Monday-Friday, with a daily pay rate of £95-£100. Immediate start available for suitable candidates.

The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO and other professionals to provide targeted support for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.

Depending on the needs of the pupils you support, your responsibilities may include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support throughout the school day
• Supporting pupils with ASD, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, speech and language needs, SEMH and other additional needs
• Helping pupils access lessons and adapting activities to meet individual learning needs
• Supporting children with reading, writing, phonics, numeracy and other areas of the curriculum
• Delivering targeted interventions under the direction of the class teacher or SENCO
• Supporting pupils in working towards targets outlined within EHCPs and individual support plans
• Encouraging pupils to develop independence and confidence in their learning
• Supporting children's communication and interaction skills
• Helping pupils regulate their emotions and providing appropriate support during periods of dysregulation
• Using positive behaviour strategies and helping pupils understand expectations and routines
• Providing social and emotional support and helping children develop positive relationships with peers
• Supporting sensory needs and using appropriate resources or strategies where required
• Observing pupils and providing feedback to teachers and the SENCO regarding progress and areas requiring further support
• Keeping appropriate records of interventions, progress and significant observations
• Preparing differentiated resources and learning materials
• Supporting pupils during transitions between lessons, activities and different areas of the school
• Providing support during breaktimes, lunchtimes and educational activities where required
• Working collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, parents/carers and external professionals
• Promoting inclusion and ensuring pupils are able to participate fully in school life
• Supporting personal care where required and where appropriate to the individual pupil
• Following safeguarding, health and safety and confidentiality procedures at all times
• Creating a calm, safe and nurturing environment in which pupils feel understood and supported

What We're Looking For

Previous experience supporting children with special educational needs is highly desirable. This could have been gained within a mainstream primary school, specialist provision, nursery or another relevant childcare setting.

Experience supporting children with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language difficulties, dyslexia or challenging behaviour would be particularly beneficial.

You should be patient, resilient and adaptable, with the ability to build trusting relationships with children while maintaining appropriate boundaries and expectations.

A genuine passion for SEND and a desire to develop your career within education and training are essential.
