Job summary

TeacherActive is seeking a SEND Teaching Assistant in Sunderland to support students aged 11-18 with Autism / ASD and other educational needs. The role involves working alongside teaching staff to provide targeted support, encouraging engagement, independence, and positive behaviour.

The successful candidate will bring experience with Autism / ASD, a patient and proactive attitude, and strong communication skills. Salary is £90-£100 per day on a PAYE basis.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people with Autism / ASD.
• Experience supporting secondary-aged students is desirable.
• A patient and supportive approach.
• Strong communication skills.
• The ability to adapt to the individual needs of students.
• A positive, proactive and resilient attitude.

Responsibilities

• Support students with various educational needs, including Autism / ASD, working alongside teaching staff to provide individual and classroom support while encouraging engagement, independence and positive behaviour.
• Contribute to a positive learning environment and assist with behaviour management and classroom routines.
