Job summary

TeacherActive is seeking a SEND Teaching Assistant for a secondary setting in Sunderland, supporting students aged 11–18 with Autism/ASD and additional educational needs. You will work with teaching staff to provide individual and classroom support while encouraging engagement, independence and positive behaviour.

The role requires a patient and supportive approach, strong communication, and the ability to adapt to each student’s needs.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people with Autism/ASD.
• Experience supporting secondary-aged students is desirable.
• Patient and supportive approach with strong communication.

Responsibilities

• Support students with Autism/ASD and other needs in classroom and small-group settings.
• Assist teaching staff with lesson delivery and behaviour management.

The school is looking to take on a SEND Teaching Assistant on a short to long-term basis. The successful SEND Teaching Assistant will support students with various educational needs, including Autism / ASD, working alongside teaching staff to provide individual and classroom support while encouraging engagement, independence and positive behaviour.

The successful SEND Teaching Assistant will have:

• Experience working with children or young people with Autism / ASD and additional educational needs
• Experience supporting secondary-aged students is desirable
• A patient and supportive approach
• Strong communication skills
• The ability to adapt to the individual needs of students
• A positive, proactive and resilient attitude
