Job summary

Smile Education Recruitment is seeking a caring Secondary Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming specialist school in Tamworth. You will support secondary-aged students with a range of SEND, helping them engage with learning and develop confidence and independence.

The role involves 1:1 and small-group support, assisting teachers to deliver accessible activities, implementing positive behaviour strategies, and safeguarding students.

Qualifications

• Experience working with secondary-aged children or young people.
• Experience with SEND is highly desirable.
• Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant, Childcare or equivalent qualification.

Responsibilities

• Support secondary-aged students with SEND.
• Deliver engaging and accessible learning activities with the class teacher.
• Provide 1:1 and small-group support where required.
• Support students to access the curriculum at their individual level.
• Encourage students to develop independence and confidence.

The Role

As a Secondary Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other support staff to provide tailored support to students across the school.

You will be supporting students within the classroom, helping them to engage with their learning while also developing their confidence, independence and social skills.

Qualifications and Experience

• Experience working with secondary-aged children or young people.
• Previous experience working with SEND is highly desirable.
• A relevant Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant, Childcare or equivalent qualification.
• Confidence supporting students with additional needs.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• A calm and consistent approach to behaviour management.
• The ability to work effectively as part of a wider team.
• A willingness to support students both academically and pastorally.
• High expectations for students and a commitment to helping them achieve their goals.
