Job summary

Smile Education are recruiting for a full-time, long-term Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN primary school in Wolverhampton. You will support children with a range of SEND to access learning, develop independence and wellbeing in a welcoming, supportive environment.

The ideal candidate will have a Level 2 TA qualification (or equivalent), experience with SEND, and be a positive, proactive team player committed to making a difference in pupils' development and outcomes.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

The Role

As a Specialist SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting children both inside and outside of the classroom.

You will work closely with class teachers and the wider school team to ensure pupils are able to access their learning, develop their independence and feel safe, valued and supported.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing classroom support to children with a range of SEND.
• Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis when required.
• Working with small groups and individual pupils to support learning and development.
• Helping children access the curriculum at their individual level.
• Supporting children's social, emotional and communication development.
• Encouraging independence and self-regulation.
• Using positive and consistent approaches to behaviour.
• Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils.
• Working collaboratively with teachers and other professionals.
• Supporting children's wellbeing and personal development.
• Getting actively involved in school life and contributing positively to the classroom environment.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be a positive, hands-on and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant who is committed to helping children with SEND achieve their potential.

You must have:

• A minimum Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent, which is a recognised qualification within the UK.
• Experience supporting children or young people with a range of SEND needs.
• Hands-on experience working within an educational or specialist setting.
• A positive and proactive approach to supporting children.
• Confidence working both independently and as part of a wider team.
• The ability to provide effective 1:1 support when required.
• Good knowledge and understanding of the primary curriculum.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• The ability to act as a positive role model for pupils.
• A willingness to get involved and support all aspects of children's learning and wellbeing.

Experience supporting children with personal care needs is desirable but is not essential.
