Job summary

Milk Education are working in partnership with a fantastic middle school in Monkseaton, seeking a SEND Support Assistant to work with children aged 9-13 within a mainstream setting. You will support pupils with SEND to access learning and reach their potential.

The role involves 1:1 and small group support, adapting activities, building relationships, and collaborating with the SENDCo and teachers. You will promote a calm, inclusive environment and help pupils develop independence.

Qualifications

  • Recent experience in an educational setting is desirable but not essential.
  • Solid numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Genuine passion for supporting children and helping them overcome barriers to learning.
  • Calm, patient and empathetic approach with ability to adapt to individual needs.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND.
  • Support children with Autism, ADHD, Speech & Language needs, SEMH and other learning needs.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Build positive relationships to encourage engagement and resilience.
  • Collaborate with teachers, the SENDCo and staff to implement personalized learning strategies.
  • Promote a calm, inclusive learning environment where pupils can succeed.
  • Support pupils to stay focused, engaged and confident in learning.
  • Encourage independence and social skills development.
