Job summary

Quantum Scholars is seeking supportive SEND/SEMH tutors to work in Wokingham. These in-person roles involve one-to-one or small-group tuition for primary and secondary students needing SEND/SEMH support with an individualised approach to learning.

Tutors will build trusting relationships, adapt teaching to meet needs, plan engaging activities, monitor progress and collaborate with parents and professionals. Safeguarding procedures are followed and a DBS check may be required.

Qualifications

  • Ability to adapt learning and support to meet individual needs
  • Strong communication, organisation and relationship-building skills
  • Willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check, where required

SEND & SEMH Tutors - Wokingham

Location: Wokingham, Berkshire

Phase: Primary / Secondary / SEND / SEMH

Working arrangement: In-person

Quantum Scholars is looking for supportive, patient and experienced SEND/SEMH Tutors to work with children and young people in Wokingham. These are in-person tutoring roles and are not online work.

The roles will involve providing personalised educational support to students who may have SEND and/or SEMH needs and would benefit from a flexible, individualised approach to learning. Tutors will be expected to build positive and trusting relationships with students, adapt their teaching and support to meet individual needs, and help young people develop their confidence, engagement and progress.

We are looking for tutors who are passionate about supporting young people who may have struggled within a traditional school environment and who can provide a calm, consistent and encouraging approach to education.

The role may involve

  • Delivering one-to-one or small-group tuition to primary and/or secondary-aged students
  • Supporting students across a range of subjects, depending on experience
  • Supporting students with SEND and/or SEMH needs
  • Planning engaging, accessible and personalised learning activities
  • Adapting teaching approaches to suit different abilities, learning needs and levels of engagement
  • Building positive, consistent and trusting relationships with students
  • Helping students develop confidence, resilience, independence and positive attitudes towards learning
  • Supporting students who may have experienced barriers to accessing mainstream education
  • Helping students re-engage with education in a positive and meaningful way
  • Supporting students with their academic, social and emotional development where appropriate
  • Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback
  • Working collaboratively with parents, carers and relevant professionals where required
  • Maintaining clear and professional communication
  • Following safeguarding procedures at all times

Essential requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people in an educational, tutoring or support setting
  • Experience working with students with SEND and/or SEMH needs
  • Experience delivering one-to-one or personalised support is desirable
  • The ability to adapt learning and support to meet individual needs
  • Strong communication, organisation and relationship-building skills
  • A patient, calm, flexible and supportive approach
  • The ability to build trust and positive relationships with young people
  • A genuine commitment to helping children and young people achieve their potential
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
  • Willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check, where required
  • Satisfactory professional references
  • You must have the right to work in the UK.
