Job summary

North Yorkshire Council is seeking an experienced SEND Casework Manager to lead a team of EHC Casework Officers, ensuring statutory duties are met for children and young people aged 0-25 with SEND.

The role focuses on professional leadership, coordination of EHCP assessments, annual reviews and mediation, with strong emphasis on compliance, child-centred decision making and collaboration with schools, health and social care partners.

Qualifications

• Experience in SEND legislation and EHCP processes.
• Proven leadership and team development skills.
• Knowledge of statutory timescales and child-centred decision making.

Responsibilities

• Maintain team caseload oversight through supervision arrangements.
• Prepare and coordinate local authority responses to appeals.
• Compile and submit evidence and documentation for tribunal hearings.
• Liaise with parents/carers, legal representatives, schools and professionals.
• Support preparation for hearings, mediations, and dispute resolution processes.
• Ensure records on internal systems are accurate and up-to-date.
• Ensure quality of casework and effective communication with stakeholders.
• Monitor and track case directions, orders and outcomes.
• Support early resolution of appeals where possible.
• Oversee the team's performance against statutory timeframes and quality standards.
• Provide induction and ongoing CPD for the team.
• Promote the emerging practice framework across Education and Inclusion Services.
