Job summary

Step Teachers is seeking a flexible SEND 1:1 Teaching Assistant for full-time daily supply in Watford and surrounding areas. You’ll support pupils with a range of SEND on a one-to-one basis, collaborating with teachers and SENCOs to implement learning plans and promote inclusive practice.

The role emphasizes building strong relationships, supporting curriculum access, and contributing to assessments while maintaining safeguarding standards. DBS update or willingness to obtain is preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND in school or care settings.
• Proven ability to build strong, trusting relationships with individual pupils.
• Understanding of EHCPs and strategies for supporting diverse needs.

SEND 1:1 Teaching Assistant – Full-time, daily supply starting as soon as possible

These flexible opportunities are ideal for SEND 1:1 Teaching Assistants who enjoy variety and want to make a positive impact across different school settings. You’ll be working on a daily supply basis in Watford and the surrounding areas, supporting pupils with special educational needs on a one-to-one basis.

Duties as SEND 1:1 Teaching Assistant:

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support for pupils with a range of SEND including autism, ADHD, SEMH, and speech and language needs
• Work closely with class teachers and SENCOs to implement personalised learning plans
• Support pupils in accessing the curriculum and developing social and emotional skills
• Promote inclusion and positive behaviour in the classroom
• Assist with personal care and mobility where required
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to reviews and assessments
• Adapt quickly to different school environments and pupil needs

Ideal SEND 1:1 Teaching Assistant:

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND in school or care settings
• Proven ability to build strong, trusting relationships with individual pupils

• Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent (desirable)
• Calm, patient, and resilient approach to behaviour and communication
• Strong teamwork and communication skills
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
