Job summary

Step Teachers is seeking a SEND Teaching Assistant for daily supply across Waltham Forest and surrounding areas. You will support pupils with SEND, work 1:1 or in small groups, and assist with personalised learning plans under teachers and SENCOs.

Expect varied school environments and ongoing safeguarding checks. Your role includes recording progress, contributing to reviews, and adapting to different needs, with weekly PAYE wages and access to wellbeing services and exclusive deals through our

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND in school or care settings.
  • Understanding of EHCPs and strategies for diverse needs.
  • Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent (desirable).
  • Calm, patient and resilient approach to behaviour and communication.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

SEND Teaching Assistant – Daily supply, starting as soon as possible

These flexible opportunities are ideal for SEND Teaching Assistants who enjoy variety and want to make a positive impact across different school settings. You’ll be working on a daily supply basis in Waltham Forest and the surrounding areas, supporting pupils with special educational needs across a range of primary and secondary schools.

Duties as SEND Teaching Assistant:
  • Support pupils with a range of SEND including autism, ADHD, SEMH, and speech and language needs
  • Work closely with class teachers and SENCOs to implement personalised learning plans
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to help pupils access the curriculum
  • Promote inclusion and positive behaviour in the classroom
  • Assist with personal care and mobility where required
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to reviews and assessments
  • Adapt quickly to different school environments and pupil needs
Ideal SEND Teaching Assistant:
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND in school or care settings
  • Understanding of EHCPs and strategies for supporting diverse needs
  • Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent (desirable)
