Position: SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator)

About Us:

We are a dynamic and inclusive secondary school in Chelmsford, committed to providing an exceptional education for all students, especially those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Our SEND provision is a key part of our school, and we seek a passionate and experienced secondary teacher ready to transition into the SENCO role.

Role Overview:

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified secondary teacher with SEND experience eager to advance into a leadership position. As SENCO, you will oversee our SEND provision, support children with high needs (including non-verbal autistic students), and manage a team of SEND Learning Support Assistants (LSAs), ensuring tailored support for each child.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage the school's SEND provision, moving from teaching to leadership.
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for SEND students.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external professionals to support SEND students effectively.
  • Manage and support a team of SEND LSAs, providing guidance and training.
  • Create an inclusive and positive learning environment.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Ensure compliance with SEND legislation and policies.
  • Provide staff training on inclusive teaching and SEND best practices.
  • Act as a key contact for parents and carers regarding SEND and student progress.
Requirements:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Experience supporting children with SEND, especially those with high needs like non-verbal autism.
  • A strong desire to become a SENCO, with commitment to professional development.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for inclusive education and supporting staff and students.
  • Patience, creativity, and proactive problem-solving skills.
