Job summary

GSL Education - Wakefield is seeking an SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with additional needs at a Wakefield school (WF12). You will work closely with teachers to help learners access activities and build confidence throughout the school day.

The role is available on a Full-Time/Part-Time basis, long-term or day-to-day, with a daily rate of £110–£130 depending on experience. An enhanced DBS or willingness to apply for one is required.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting pupils with additional needs.
  • Ability to respond to pupils as individuals.
  • Strong safeguarding awareness and child protection understanding.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils on a one-to-one or small-group basis.
  • Helping pupils engage with lessons and complete appropriate classroom activities.
  • Providing reassurance and encouragement when pupils find learning or social situations difficult.
  • Supporting the development of communication, independence and social skills.
  • Helping implement individual learning and support strategies.
  • Monitoring pupils' engagement and sharing useful observations with the teaching team.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and maintaining a safe, inclusive environment.
  • Experience working with children or young people with Special Educational Needs in an education, care or youth setting.

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are working with a school in Wakefield (WF12) that is looking for an SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team as soon as possible. If you are patient, observant, and able to respond to pupils as individuals, this could be a rewarding opportunity.


The role of an SEN teaching assistant will involve supporting pupils who need additional help to access learning and manage the demands of the school day. You ll work closely with teachers and other staff, adapting your approach according to each pupil s needs.


Your responsibilities as an SEN teaching assistant will include:



  • Supporting pupils on a one-to-one or small-group basis.

  • Helping pupils engage with lessons and complete appropriate classroom activities.

  • Providing reassurance and encouragement when pupils find learning or social situations difficult.

  • Supporting the development of communication, independence and social skills.

  • Helping implement individual learning and support strategies.

  • Monitoring pupils engagement and sharing useful observations with the teaching team.

  • Promoting positive behaviour and maintaining a safe, inclusive environment.

  • Experience working with children or young people having Special Educational Need, in an education, care, youth or similar setting.

  • An understanding of the different barriers pupils with additional needs may experience.

  • The confidence to work both independently and alongside teachers and support staff.

  • A calm approach when dealing with challenging or unexpected situations.

  • An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for a new enhanced DBS check.
