Job summary

Aspire People are recruiting a SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils in a specialist SEND setting in Peterborough. You will work with pupils aged 4-19 with severe and complex needs, including autism, across short- and long-term placements.

The role involves delivering multisensory learning, supporting communication and behaviour strategies, and assisting with personal care where needed. A caring, patient and adaptable approach is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with SEND, ideally in a specialist school or similar setting.
• Understanding of autism, severe learning difficulties or complex communication needs.
• Calm, patient, resilient and able to respond positively to behaviours that challenge.
• Willingness to support personal care when required.
• Excellent communication and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils with severe learning difficulties, autism and complex additional needs.
• Deliver engaging, differentiated and multisensory learning activities.
• Provide individual and small-group support, adapting approaches for each pupil.
• Support pupils with communication, emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies.
• Encourage independence, confidence, social development and essential life skills.
• Assist with personal care and physical needs where required.
• Help create a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment.
• Build trusting, professional relationships with pupils and staff.
