Job summary

Aspire People are recruiting an SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 4-19 with severe and complex needs in a specialist school in Peterborough. The role is supply, with short-term and long-term opportunities, starting ASAP.

You will work with multi-disciplinary teams, provide personalised learning, assist with personal care where required, and help create a safe, inclusive environment. Experience with SEND and autism would be advantageous; DBS checks apply.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, ideally within a specialist setting.
• Understand the needs of pupils with autism, severe learning difficulties or complex communication needs.
• Calm, patient, resilient, and able to respond positively to behaviours that challenge.
• Flexible, reliable, and confident working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent communication skills and a genuine passion for supporting young people.
• Willing to support personal care needs where required.
• Experience with communication aids (Makaton, PECS) and sensory approaches is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils with severe learning difficulties, autism and complex needs.
• Deliver engaging, differentiated and multisensory learning activities with teachers.
• Provide individual and small-group support, adapting your approach to each pupil.
• Support communication, emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies.
• Encourage independence, confidence, social development and life skills.
• Assist with personal care and physical needs where required.
• Create a safe, inclusive learning environment.
• Build trusting relationships with pupils and staff.
