Job summary

Prospero Teaching is recruiting a SEN Teaching Assistant in Stevenage to support pupils who need additional help with attention, communication and classroom learning. You will work closely with the teacher to make tasks manageable and build pupils' confidence.

The role combines one-to-one support with small-group activities, with an emphasis on independence rather than completing work for pupils. This full-time, long-term temporary position runs Monday to Friday during term time, with start date

Qualifications

  • Previous UK classroom support experience with primary-age pupils.
  • Experience helping pupils with SEND remain engaged and access learning.
  • Clear communication, reliable attendance and a consistent approach to behaviour.
  • Experience of phonics interventions, EHCP support or a relevant teaching assistant qualification would strengthen your application.

Responsibilities

  • Break tasks into clear, manageable stages for learners.
  • Support pupils with autism or ADHD using agreed classroom strategies.
  • Deliver reading, spelling and numeracy interventions planned by the teacher.
  • Use movement breaks, visual prompts and predictable routines where appropriate.
  • Record pupils' responses to support and contribute to discussions about next steps.
