Job Description:

Your new company

Hays Recruitment is proud to support a Warrington-based SEND school that is easily accessible via public transport. They are looking to appoint an experienced and motivated qualified teaching assistant for a long-term temporary contract. This well-established school supports pupils from EYFS to KS4 with diverse needs, including specific learning disabilities, autistic spectrum disorders, profound and multiple learning disabilities, visual impairments, and more.

Your new role

As a teaching assistant, you will support pupils on a 1:1 and 2:1 basis with various needs. You will be based within KS3, supporting class teachers to promote a stimulating learning environment, while occasionally supporting other key stages. Working with pupils with diverse needs such as ASD, LD, non-verbal, visual impairments, etc., you will need a pupil-centred approach to ensure individual needs, emotional states, and personalities are prioritized. Your duties will include implementing positive behaviour strategies, speech and language interventions, sensory play/therapy, behavioural interventions, personal and intimate care, liaising with teachers, SENCo, guardians, and completing observations. Due to the pupils' needs, they may sometimes exhibit complex behaviours, and you will be responsible for ensuring pupils are removed from overstimulating or upsetting environments.

What you'll need to succeed

Applicants must have full 'Right to Work' in the UK, be at least Level 3 or equivalent qualified, and have a minimum of 40 days of referenceable teaching assistant experience within the last 2 years. Desirable qualities include:

  • Experience supporting SEN: ASD, LD, PMLD, and non-verbal
  • Experience using PECs and Makaton
  • Comfortable completing intimate/personal care requirements

What you'll get in return

If successful, you will receive full support, guidance from a senior DfE accredited recruitment consultant, and a range of benefits.
