Job summary

Veritas-Education-Recruitmen is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support KS3 and KS4 pupils with diverse needs in a specialist SEN setting in Chorley, Lancashire. You will assist with classroom delivery, differentiation, and 1:1 support to help pupils achieve academic and emotional goals.

The role focuses on building confidence, communication, and independent skills, with opportunities for ongoing SEN-focused CPD and close collaboration with teachers and therapists.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN is desirable.
  • Understanding of needs including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and communication difficulties.
  • Calm, patient, and nurturing approach.
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and support pupils effectively.
  • Flexible and adaptable attitude to supporting learning and wellbeing.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Ongoing SEN-focused CPD and training opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide classroom support for KS3 and KS4 pupils with a range of SEN needs.
  • Work closely with teachers to deliver engaging and differentiated learning activities.
  • Support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small group interventions.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social development.
  • Help create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment.
  • Support pupils in developing communication, independence, and confidence.
  • Assist with implementing EHCP targets and personalised learning strategies.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and external professionals.
