The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, employing various communication strategies to promote engagement, independence, and emotional regulation across the school day.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN
  • Experience supporting children with autism and/or non-verbal communication
  • A patient, calm and consistent approach
  • Good understanding of sensory needs and emotional regulation
  • Confidence working as part of a wider school team
  • The ability to build strong relationships with pupils
  • A proactive and positive attitude
  • A genuine interest in supporting children to develop their independence and reach their potential

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support as needed
  • Support learning across the school day to engage pupils
  • Assist communication through visual aids, PECS and other strategies
  • Help pupils regulate emotions and manage sensory needs
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to implement individual plans and EHCP targets
  • Create a calm, safe and supportive learning environment
  • Build strong relationships with pupils and staff
  • Support independence and personal development for pupils
  • Adapt approaches to meet each pupil's needs
