Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support as needed

Job description

The role will involve supporting children with a range of additional needs, including autism and complex learning needs. Many of the pupils are non-verbal and require consistent, individualised support throughout the school day. You will work closely with teaching staff to support pupils with their learning, communication, regulation and day-to-day development. The successful candidate will be confident using different communication strategies and able to build positive relationships with children who may require a high level of support.

The Role
  • Supporting pupils with a range of SEN, including autism and complex needs
  • Working with children who may be non-verbal
  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support where required
  • Supporting communication through visual aids, PECS and other communication strategies
  • Helping pupils regulate their emotions and manage sensory needs
  • Supporting learning and engagement across the school day
  • Following individual support plans and EHCP targets
  • Working closely with teachers and other support staff
  • Creating a calm, safe and supportive environment for pupils
  • The successful candidate will ideally have:
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN
  • Experience supporting children with autism and/or non-verbal communication
  • A patient, calm and consistent approach
  • Good understanding of sensory needs and emotional regulation
  • Confidence working as part of a wider school team

This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS (child and adult workforce), satisfactory references, and full compliance with KCSIE (2026) guidance and safer recruitment standards. Overseas police checks may be required where applicable.
