Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a SEN Teaching Assistant for a full academic year in Whitehaven, Cumbria. You will support pupils with severe and complex learning needs, working 1:1 or in small groups to promote independence and communication.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEN or complex needs.
• Patience, empathy and adaptability with strong communication skills.
• Will be comfortable with personal care and physical support if needed.
• Enhanced DBS (Update Service) or willing to process one.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils 1:1 or in small groups across structured learning and activities.
• Assist with sensory development, communication programmes (PECS/Makaton).
• Implement individualized plans under guidance of teachers and SEN specialists.
• Foster a calm, encouraging atmosphere and support positive behaviour strategies.
• Track engagement and progress, provide feedback to SENCO and staff.
