Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive Sunderland secondary school from September 2026. This full-time, long-term supply role offers opportunities to work 1:1 and in small groups with students who have additional needs, helping them access learning and build confidence.

You will collaborate with teachers, SEN staff and pastoral teams to foster an inclusive, constructive learning environment; experience with ASD/ADHD and strong communication are

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people with additional needs.
• Experience in a school, college, care or support setting desirable.
• Patient, caring and resilient approach to learners.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Enhanced DBS on Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEN.
• Support pupils with ASD, ADHD and other learning needs.
• Assist students in accessing lessons and developing independence.
• Collaborate with teachers and SEN staff on support strategies.
• Encourage positive behaviour and confidence in learning.
• Build relationships to support emotional and academic development.
• Assist with classroom activities and promote inclusion.
• Provide feedback on student progress and wellbeing.
