What Your Role Will Involve:
  • Providing responsive, in‑class assistance to pupils with a wide spectrum of SEN, including autism, ADHD, moderate learning difficulties, and communication disorders.
  • Running focused intervention sessions—both one‑to‑one and in small groups—to reinforce core academic skills, social understanding, and emotional regulation.
  • Implementing tailored behaviour guidance techniques that encourage positive choices, self‑esteem, and active participation.
  • Collaborating closely with classroom teachers to modify lesson materials, resources, and delivery methods according to each learner's unique profile.
  • Offering additional support for pupils with sensory sensitivities, physical accessibility needs, or speech and language delays.
  • Playing an active part in monitoring pupil progress, contributing to EHCP reviews, and sharing observations with the SENCO and wider professional network.
Who We Are Looking For:
  • A minimum Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or substantial equivalent experience within education, childcare, or health‑related settings.
  • Demonstrable experience supporting children or young adults with SEN—whether in schools, residential homes, or community programmes.
  • Sound familiarity with differentiation strategies, visual supports, and assistive technologies.
  • Outstanding interpersonal abilities, combined with a patient, adaptable, and solution‑focused mindset.
  • An active Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service, or a willingness to obtain one promptly.
  • Two satisfactory professional references, covering your most recent roles.
What Academics Can Offer You:
  • Competitive daily earnings, paid weekly with all holiday entitlements included.
  • Free CPD opportunities—covering topics such as sensory processing, positive handling, and autism‑friendly practice.
  • Flexible working patterns across a selection of well‑regarded specialist schools in and around Retford.
