Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a Weymouth SEN Unit supporting a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and speech and language needs. The role involves 1:1 and small-group support, helping pupils access the curriculum and participate in school life, and promoting communication, social development and emotional regulation.

The ideal candidate will have SEN experience, be patient and nurturing, and work well with teachers and specialists to implement

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
  • Confident supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
  • Experience or willingness to develop experience in supporting speech and language needs.
  • Patient, empathetic and nurturing approach; able to build strong relationships with children.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to children with additional needs.
  • Support a child with ASD and speech and language difficulties.
  • Help pupils access the curriculum and participate in school life.
  • Support communication, social development and emotional regulation.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils and work with the class teacher and SEN team.
  • Follow individual support plans and contribute to a nurturing environment.
  • Encourage independence, confidence and positive behaviour.
