Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a Weymouth SEN Unit supporting a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and speech and language needs. The role involves 1:1 and small-group support, helping pupils access the curriculum and participate in school life, and promoting communication, social development and emotional regulation.

The ideal candidate will have SEN experience, be patient and nurturing, and work well with teachers and specialists to implement

Teaching Assistant – SEN Unit | ASD & Speech & Language Support

Location: Weymouth, Dorset
Start Date: October 2026
Contract: Full-time, long-term
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Are you a caring, patient and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant with experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs?

Teaching Personnel are working with a loving and supportive school in Weymouth who are looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join their SEN Unit from October 2026.

The successful candidate will provide dedicated support to a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Speech and Language needs, helping them to access learning, develop communication skills and thrive within the school environment.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant within the school's SEN Unit, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to children with additional needs.
  • Support a child with ASD and speech and language difficulties.
  • Help pupils access the curriculum and participate fully in school life.
  • Support communication, social development and emotional regulation.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SEN team and wider school staff.
  • Follow individual support plans and contribute to a nurturing, inclusive environment.
  • Encourage independence, confidence and positive behaviour.
The Ideal Candidate

The school is looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced working with children or young people with SEN.
  • Confident supporting children with ASD.
  • Experienced, or keen to develop their experience, supporting speech and language needs.
  • Patient, empathetic and nurturing in their approach.
  • Able to build strong relationships with children and maintain a calm, consistent approach.
  • A strong team player who is happy to work closely with teachers and other professionals.
  • Passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and reach their potential.

Experience within an SEN school, specialist provision, SEN unit or mainstream school supporting children with additional needs would be highly desirable.
