Job summary

Long Term Futures is recruiting three SEN teaching assistants / support workers to join a specialist ASD provision in High Barnet, supporting secondary-aged students with autism and related learning needs. This full-time role offers term-time work with a September 2026 start and a pathway to permanent employment.

You'll work closely with teachers, therapists and SEN professionals to deliver personalised support, implement EHCP strategies and promote independence in a safe learning environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children or young people with ASD.
  • A patient, resilient and understanding approach.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and behaviour support strategies.
  • Background as a support worker, youth worker, SEN teaching assistant, care worker or healthcare assistant.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for secondary-aged students with ASD.
  • Support students with communication, emotional regulation and engagement in learning.
  • Work alongside teachers, therapists and SEN professionals to deliver personalised support.
  • Implement strategies linked to EHCPs and individual learning plans.
  • Encourage independence, confidence and positive social interaction.
  • Create a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment throughout the school day.

SEN Teaching Assistant / Support Worker – Specialist ASD Provision – High Barnet

Full Time | Term Time Only | September 2026 Start | Up to £120 per day | Long Term Role (Temp to Perm) | 3 Vacancies Available

Long Term Futures is recruiting three SEN teaching assistants / support workers to join a highly regarded specialist provision in High Barnet, supporting secondary-aged students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and associated learning needs.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a specialist setting where you'll make a genuine difference every day. The school is looking for compassionate, resilient, and proactive individuals who understand that every young person learns differently. Experience as a support worker, youth worker, SEN teaching assistant or care worker is highly desirable.

Trial days are taking place from next week, with successful candidates securing September starts. Applications will close as soon as suitable candidates are identified.

Key Responsibilities

Ideal Candidate Will Have

Location & Transport – High Barnet, North London

Accessible via High Barnet Station (Northern Line). Close to New Barnet (National Rail) and Totteridge & Whetstone. Bus routes: 34, 107, 184, 234, 263, 384. Easily accessible from Enfield, Finchley, Potters Bar and surrounding North London areas.
