Job description

The school is looking for dependable, caring individuals who can provide consistent, individualised support and help pupils have positive and successful experiences in the classroom.

Whether you already have school-based SEN experience or have supported children in another setting, this could be a fantastic opportunity to take the next step in a rewarding career within education.

Every pupil is unique, so your support will be tailored to their individual needs and the requirements of the school. You may work closely with one pupil, support a small intervention group or help children access learning within the wider classroom.

Your responsibilities may include:
  • Building a trusting, positive and consistent relationship with pupils with additional needs
  • Supporting children with Autism (ASD), ADHD, speech and language difficulties and other learning needs
  • Adapting activities and learning materials to suit individual needs
  • Following agreed strategies to encourage engagement, confidence and positive behaviour
  • Helping pupils develop independence, communication and social skills
  • Sharing observations and progress with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals
  • Providing reassurance and encouragement throughout the school day
  • Contributing to a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment

There are full-time and part-time opportunities available, including longer-term placements throughout the academic year.

Supply Heroes are keen to hear from supportive, reliable and compassionate candidates who:
  • Have experience supporting children or young people with additional needs in a school, nursery, care or community setting
  • Have a patient, empathetic and calm approach
  • Can build positive relationships while maintaining clear and appropriate boundaries
  • Are confident following individual support plans and guidance from school staff
  • Are passionate about helping every child feel included and achieve their potential
  • Hold a relevant qualification, although this is desirable rather than essential

Experience with personal care, behaviour support, Makaton, PECS, Team Teach or similar approaches would also be welcomed.

Why Supply Heroes?

  • Excellent rates of pay on PAYE
  • Around the clock support whenever you need it
  • Commitment to a quality of service and safeguarding
  • Support with any interviews and lesson observations
  • Transparency and honesty
