Job summary

Academics in Walton-on-Thames is seeking a dedicated teaching assistant to provide high-quality 1:1 SEN support for pupils, helping them access learning inside and outside the classroom.

You will also deliver targeted small-group interventions focused on literacy, numeracy, communication and social development, supporting children with Autism, ADHD and SEMH needs. This full-time, term-time role starts September 2026 with pay £92-£105 per day depending on experience.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children with SEN in primary school or similar setting.
  • Knowledge of Autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs, or other learning needs.
  • Patience, empathy, resilience and excellent communication skills.

  • Provide high-quality 1:1 SEN support for pupils, enabling access to learning in and out of the classroom.
  • Deliver targeted small-group interventions in literacy, numeracy, communication and social development.

Role Details

Location: Walton-on-Thames

Start Date: September 2026

Contract: Full-time, Monday to Friday (Term Time Only)

Pay: £92-£105 per day (dependent on experience)

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality 1:1 support for pupils with Special Educational Needs, helping them access learning both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Deliver targeted small-group interventions focused on literacy, numeracy, communication, and social development.
  • Support children with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, SEMH needs, and moderate learning difficulties.
  • Foster positive relationships with pupils, helping them develop socially, emotionally, and academically.
The Ideal Candidate Will:
  • Have previous experience supporting children with SEN within a primary school, specialist provision, nursery, or similar educational setting.
  • Have knowledge of supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs, or other additional learning needs.
  • Demonstrate patience, empathy, resilience, and excellent communication skills.
