Job summary

Long Term Futures Ltd is recruiting an SEN Teaching Assistant to support children with autism and speech, language and communication needs in a WS1, Walsall primary school. Focused on 1:1 and small-group interventions, you’ll help pupils access learning, build confidence and become more independent within structured routines.

The role involves collaboration with teachers, the SENCO and support staff, working in a supportive community.

Qualifications

  • A Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools or equivalent.
  • Previous experience supporting primary-aged pupils with SEN.
  • Experience with Autism and/or Speech and Language Needs.
  • A calm, patient and adaptable approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support primary-aged pupils with autism and SLCN.
  • Deliver targeted speech, language and communication activities.
  • Use visual timetables, prompts and structured routines.
  • Support social interaction, emotional regulation and independence.
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group interventions.
  • Work closely with teachers, the SENCO and wider support team.

Days: Monday to Friday (Term Time Only)

Contract: Long-Term temporary, Temp to Perm

Long Term Futures are looking for an SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in WS1, Walsall, supporting children with autism and speech, language and communication needs (SLCN).

You’ll work with pupils who benefit from additional structure, communication support and targeted interventions, helping them access learning, build confidence and become more independent. The role combines 1:1, small-group and classroom support, making it ideal for someone who enjoys building strong relationships with pupils while remaining part of the wider school community.

In this role, you will:
  • Support primary-aged pupils with autism and SLCN
  • Deliver targeted speech, language and communication activities
  • Use visual timetables, prompts and structured routines
  • Support social interaction, emotional regulation and independence
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group interventions
  • Work closely with teachers, the SENCO and wider support team
You’ll need:
  • A Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools or equivalent in a relevant subject.
  • Previous experience supporting primary-aged pupils with SEN.
  • Experience with Autism and/or Speech and Language Needs.
  • A calm, patient and adaptable approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
