Qualifications

Responsibilities

SEN Teaching Assistant - 1:1 Behaviour Support - Oswaldtwistle

Start Date: September 2026
Hours: 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM
Contract Type: Ongoing

Veritas Education is seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a primary-aged pupil in Oswaldtwistle. The role involves helping the child regulate emotions, remain engaged in learning, and access the curriculum in a supportive and structured way.

The pupil experiences:

  • Short periods of engagement with learning activities
  • Episodes of heightened emotions, including vocal outbursts
  • Difficulty remaining in the classroom for extended periods, benefiting from movement and sensory breaks

We are looking for someone who can:

  • Use calm, supportive de-escalation techniques
  • Redirect focus and guide the child back to a regulated state
  • Provide sensory activities, structured breaks, and time away from the classroom when required
  • Encourage reintegration into lessons and build positive, trusting relationships
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and pastoral teams

Experience with SEMH needs, positive behaviour support approaches, or trauma-informed practice is highly valued.

Safeguarding & Application Requirements:

All applicants will undergo an Enhanced DBS Check, reference checks, and-if relevant-overseas police clearances in line with safeguarding policies.
Employment history for the past 10 years should be provided, including explanations for any gaps.
Applicants need to have the legal right to work in the UK and be available for a registration interview.
