Job summary

Veritas Education Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a primary pupil in Oswaldtwistle. The role focuses on helping the child regulate emotions, stay engaged in learning, and access the curriculum in a calm, structured setting.

You will implement calm de-escalation techniques, redirect attention to learning, provide sensory breaks, and support reintegration into lessons alongside the class teacher, SENCO, and pastoral teams.

Qualifications

• Experience with SEMH needs, positive behaviour support approaches, or trauma-informed practice is highly valued.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 support for a primary pupil to regulate emotions and stay engaged in learning.
• Use calm, supportive de-escalation techniques to maintain a safe, positive learning environment.
• Redirect focus and guide the child back to a regulated state during lessons.
• Provide sensory activities, structured breaks, and time away from the classroom when required.
• Encourage reintegration into lessons and build positive, trusting relationships with the pupil.
