Job summary

Academics is seeking a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with profound and complex needs in High Wycombe. You will help students access learning, develop communication skills, and work toward individual goals in a nurturing environment.

The role involves 1:1 and small-group support, personal care as needed, and promoting independence through tailored activities. Collaboration with teachers, therapists, and staff is essential to ensure safety and progress.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN is preferred.
  • Understanding of profound and complex needs including PMLD and ASD is helpful.
  • Patient, caring and empathetic approach.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with profound and complex needs.
  • Assist with personal care where required, including feeding, toileting, and mobility support.
  • Support communication using PECS, Makaton, visual aids, and other communication methods.
  • Help implement individual education, care, and EHCP plans.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and wider support staff.
  • Encourage pupils to develop confidence, independence, and life skills.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.

SEN Teaching Assistant - High Wycombe
