Job summary

A well-established independent special school in Andover seeks Learning Support Mentors. The role involves providing academic and emotional support to students with additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder. The position is full-time in a nurturing environment, offering excellent training opportunities. Candidates should have at least 1 year of experience working with children and relevant qualifications. This is a temp-to-perm opportunity with working hours from 8:30am to 3:30pm, Monday to Friday.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year's experience working with children or young people.
  • GCSEs or equivalent required.
  • Up-to-date safeguarding training within the last year preferred.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic and emotional support to students.

  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

Job description

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people with additional needs? We are working with a well‑established independent special school in the Andover area that is seeking several Learning Support Mentors to join their team. This is a full‑time, temp‑to‑perm opportunity with a supportive and nurturing school environment.

The school offers education to young people aged 11-19 with a primary diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), often alongside complex needs and behaviours that challenge. Many of the students also experience associated difficulties such as ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, and secondary mental health conditions like anxiety and depression. Every pupil at the school has an EHCP in place and receives tailored support to help them thrive both academically and emotionally.

Rated “Good” by Ofsted, the school provides a structured and therapeutic setting where staff are committed to supporting student’s development through individualised learning and care plans.

Your Role Will Include:
  • Providing academic and emotional support to students in and out of the classroom
  • Assisting teachers and the wider school team to implement consistent, nurturing approaches
  • Helping to deliver personalised learning in line with students’ EHCPs
  • Working closely with students with complex needs, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times
  • Location: Andover, Hampshire
  • Position: Learning Support Mentor / Teaching Assistant
  • Contract type: Temp to Perm
  • Working hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
  • Pay: From £ per hour
Requirements:
  • Minimum 1 year’s experience working with children or young people
  • GCSEs or equivalent
  • Up‑to‑date safeguarding training (within the last year)
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
  • Able to provide two professional references
