Job summary

TeacherActive is recruiting a SEN Teaching Assistant for a mainstream primary school in Derby. The role is full-time, long-term from September 2026 to July 2027, supporting non-verbal children with autism across EYFS and KS1. You will help students access activities and make progress in learning and communication.

The successful candidate will have experience with ASD, non-verbal pupils, and knowledge of EYFS/KS1 curricula. A patient, adaptable approach and strong teamwork are essential.

TeacherActive is proud to be working with a welcoming mainstream primary school in Derby that is looking to appoint a SEN Teaching Assistant. The school provides an inclusive and supportive learning environment where pupils are encouraged to develop their confidence, communication and independence.

The school is looking for a full-time SEN Teaching Assistant to work on a long-term basis from September 2026 until July 2027. The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will support non-verbal children with autism / ASD across EYFS and Key Stage 1 / KS1, helping them access classroom activities and make progress with their learning and communication.

The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will have:
  • A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable
  • Experience supporting children with autism / ASD
  • Experience working with non-verbal children
  • Knowledge of the EYFS and Key Stage 1 / KS1 curriculum
  • A patient, caring and adaptable approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
